My name is Helen Marcus – a very warm welcome to my website.
I love to support other therapists through supervision, workshops and trainings. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) as my primary model – I find it to be a dependable compass and map to navigate the rich complexities of our inner worlds and those of our clients. I have a Masters degree in Psychotherapy and an MPhil in Creative Writing and the stories of how we have come to be as we are form a central part of my work.

A question I have thought about a lot in the last couple of years is ‘Who do you think you are?’ with some of the different tones it can be expressed with – sarcastically, critically or with genuine curiosity. I have certainly met each of these versions of that question as I have explored it over the years, and in writing this introduction.
Growing up I was often told I was in a world of my own, and ‘away with the fairies’. This no longer carries the shame it once did. I recognise this now as an essential part of the ‘who I am’ question. I have an innate pull to the inner world – sometimes out of necessity as a way to make the unbearable bearable, a place to begin to make sense of what is happening in ‘real’ life. It is also often where I felt most at home, and still do.
I was born and raised in Northern Ireland and I hold dear my Celtic ancestry with all that can mean – the beautiful gifts and strengths of my ancestral lineage as well as the burdens carried in the past, and what I too bear in my time and place on that line.
If you too are drawn to this question of ‘who do you think you are?’ do explore the site further and see if there is something here for you.
